Revealing the truth to protect our youth

Help us empower our community against exploitation!

We are a group of Rotarian’s passionate about safeguarding the youth in our community from the threat of human trafficking. INSIGHT is an acronym for “Interclub Network Stopping Internet Grooming and Human Trafficking”.

Our mission is to provide the knowledge and tools that prepare our community’s adolescents and their caretakers to recognize and prevent their exploitation by modern methods of grooming and coercion to avoid the risk of human trafficking.

We will educate the youth, parents, and educators in the community through workshops, school programs, and informational materials and provide them the support they need to act in our community to protect our youth.

How will INSIGHT inform and equip the community?

Our group is working closely with local experts, community leaders, and community members to understand how best to address the issues of internet grooming and human trafficking in Redlands and the surrounding areas.

We plan to facilitate a number of workshops that will provide tangible actions that families can take to safeguard the youth of our community and inform other community members about the risks our youth face.

We are currently researching curriculums for schools in the hopes that we can partner with both our local public and private schools to offer a comprehensive program that will provide middle school and high school students, their parents, school counselors, and school administrators the knowledge and tools they need to recognize and combat internet grooming in our community.

We will organize a number of awareness events throughout the year to rally the community and raise funds for the workshops, school curriculum, and materials that we plan to provide to the community.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Find answers to common questions about

internet grooming and

human trafficking.

What is human trafficking?

Human trafficking is the illegal trade of human beings for the purposes of forced labor, sexual exploitation, and other forms of modern-day slavery. It is a severe global issue that is affecting upwards of 40 million men, women, and children worldwide.

Traffickers use various means to lure their victims, including deception, coercion, force, or by taking advantage of their vulnerability, with the intent to exploit them.

Due to its hidden nature, it's challenging to obtain accurate statistics on human trafficking, but it remains one of the most lucrative forms of transnational crime, generating billions of dollars in illegal profits each year.

What is internet grooming?

Internet grooming refers to the process used by predators to manipulate minors into sexual exploitation, abuse, or trafficking. This manipulation often occurs over digital platforms like social media, chat rooms, instant messaging, or online gaming platforms. Grooming can involve a series of steps designed to build a relationship with the target, gain their trust, and then exploit that trust for abusive purposes.

Internet grooming plays a significant role in the perpetration of human trafficking, exploiting the vast reach and anonymity provided by the digital world. Traffickers from all over the world adapt their strategies to the online environment, using grooming techniques to manipulate, recruit, and exploit their victims remotely.

Is this really happening in Redlands?

Yes, it absolutely is. The number of youth in Redlands that are being targeted and victimized by internet grooming is hard to understand, since it involves shame and coercion. There are a number of tragic stories from neighboring communities where teens have taken their own lives or ended up in a situation of trafficking as victims of internet grooming.

Also, as recently as November of 2023, there was a police raid of a Redlands massage parlor where three traffickers were arrested. Part of the charges are for trafficking of two minors, aged 14 and 15. This is not an uncommon occurance, where businesses are used as a front for the trafficking of individuals, including minors.

How can I get involved in preventing this in our community?

You can get involved by endorsing educational programing for our community institutions, educating other community members about the issue, supporting local and national anti-trafficking organizations, advocating for policies that combat trafficking, and staying informed about local and national trends in human trafficking prevention.
